DESCRIPTION
New to the DuraChoice product line, the VBB02 lead-free brass ball valve meets all Safe Drinking Water Act Standards for use with potable water. Available in both locking and non-locking handle varieties, the valve is made of a silicon brass blend, whose wetted parts contain less than 0.25% lead.
DuraChoice introduced these valves in response to growing federal and state government regulations that limit people’s exposure to harmful chemicals in drinkable water. An amendment to the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, redefined “lead-free� down from a maximum 8% weighted lead content in potable water pipes to 0.25% on the wetted surface of any plumbing products transporting that water.
Lead has long been used as a hardening agent in brass pipes, fittings and valves. Under the new regulations, DuraChoice has chosen to replace that with a silicon brass mixture which allows the valves to keep their machinability and pressure tightness, while removing the lead content.
